COME FLY WITH ME

This “How to Claim you Dragon” video focuses on the sequence we worked on: when young Aemond rides Vhagar for the first time.

It explains how the real cameras had to match our 3D cameras, which allowed us animators to place the footage (in this case the actor) in the correct spot in order to animate Vhagar. This sequence also includes full CG shots. This means that the entire shot was computer generated including the actor—typically wide angle shots, where you could see more of Vhagar's body mass.

Two of my shots. What a ride!!!!

Who's the Big Bad Wolf

A huge thrill to have worked on Ridley Scott’s first-ever television production—of which he also directed a couple of episodes. This sci-fi series has real promise as the new trailer shows. Our animation team worked on a range of challenging creature and android shots, including physical interactions between creatures and actors (I can’t reveal more). These types of shots are tricky and difficult to pull off, but judging by the trailer it was worth the pain.

Raised By Wolves starts September 3 on the new streaming service HBO MAX.

Bounty hunting is a complicated profession

This time we journeyed into a galaxy far, far away….and worked on the first-ever Star Wars live-action series, which is set to stream November 12th exclusively on the new Disney +

Created and produced by director/actor Jon Favreau, the series is set a few years after the events of the original "Star Wars".

Pixomondo teams in Toronto and here in Frankfurt helped create stunning VFX shots….aaaand I am not allowed to reveal much more, other than that it's looking very, very good.

Slow But Deadly

So things have been really busy for us lately, working on several projects at the same time. But all those long hours are beginning to pay off, especially when you start seeing some results.

One of the most rewarding things is that with each project there is so much to learn, not only from an animation point of view, but also technically and historically. Take WWII planes for example, how fast do they fly, how does air affect them or what is the function of all those wing parts. So many questions, so little time. And then there is the historical background, which in itself is really interesting. This story chronicles the events surrounding the 1942 Battle of Midway, a pivotal naval battle in the Pacific Theater that took place six months after the Pearl Harbor attack.

We were mostly working on those so-called SBD planes, short for Scout Bomber Douglas.... nicknamed: Slow But Deadly!!!!

The first trailer is out!!!! I worked on the shot at 1:13 when the SBD planes are flying towards the Japanese fleet. I share credits with Hoa Tu Ngoc (VFX Lighting artist), who lit the shot and Lukasz Remis (VFX Compositing artist) who composited it.

This star-studded historical war drama opens November 8th. Here is the trailer. Enjoy!!!!

Discovering new frontiers

A couple of weeks ago we moved to Frankfurt. I'm now working at Pixomondo. My first assignment took me to space....the final frontier.  Our continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life, to boldly go where no one has gone before!!!!

Our team in Frankfurt worked on episodes three and four. I  arrived just in time to be part of episode four. What a ride!!!!

Cleo & Cuquín (Familia Telerín)

It's already been a year since we packed our stuff and moved to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where I worked as a Senoir Character Animator on Cleo and Cuquin at Ánima Kitchent. I have been working on that project for almost a year.

Cleo & Cuquín is a pre-school animated tv series based on "La familia Telerín" (The Telerin family), which was a cartoon jingle and daily broadcast created by spanish animators Jose Luis and Santiago Moro.

It first aired in the early 60's and became very popular in Spain and Latinamerika.

The new series will focus on oldest sister Cleo and baby brother Cuquín, who, together with their siblings, will have 52, seven minutes long, fun and original adventures.

Although Cleo and Cuquín are at the center of all adventures, siblings Tete, Maripí, Pelusín and Colitas are always ready to play.

The series will air later this year on Discovery Kids Latinamerika, Televisa México, Clan Spain and Netlix worldwide.

The ANIMAL CRACKERS experience

So, it's been a couple of weeks now since I came back from Santiago de Compostela after completing work for Animal Crackers at Locked Dragon.

I guess all good things come to an end. But what happens with the really excellent, amazing things. Do they come to an end, too? Well, maybe not. I like to think that we carry them on some how, always remembering and continuously learning from them.

Anyway, I got to work on the villain, Horatio P. Huntington, on a very exciting sequence in which he....oh wait....can't talk about it (hint: it's near the end). Go check out the movie once it's released!!!!
Horatio was voiced by none other than Ian McKellen, so needless to say how amazing it was to animate this character. Mr. McKellen's incredibly strong, versatile voice and his out-of-this-world acting talent made it a plessure to work on this guy. Carter Goddrich designed the character (as I pointed out on my previous post) and that made it extra special!!!!

Disclaimer: NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED BY ANY ANIMATOR DURING THE PRODUCTION OF THIS FILM

THE LIGHTHOUSE OF THE ORCAS

I am currently working on this film as a senior animator. It has been an amazing experience so far. Learning about theses fantastic creatures and studying their behaviour has been an incredible journey. I feel that I'm learning so much both as an artist and on a personal level.

Based on actual events the film tells the story of a woman, who with the help of a ranger starts a therapy for her autistic son interacting with orcas.

BJÖRN*

Inspired by a trip to the Swedish History Museum.

The design of Björn's outfit is obviously not 100% historically accurate - I spiced things up to make him look a bit more dramatic. He is the first of a series of characters....MORE COMING SOON!!!!
